Hemigraphis is a tropical plant commonly grown for its striking foliage. One of the most popular varieties is Hemigraphis alternata, also known as Purple Waffle Plant due to its deeply textured, metallic-purple leaves.
Care Tips:
*1. Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light.Tolerates partial shade, but colors fade in low light.Avoid direct sun—it can scorch the leaves.
*2. Watering:
Likes consistently moist soil, but not soggy.Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.Don’t let it dry out completely—it wilts easily but can bounce back if caught early.
*3. Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity.Mist regularly or use a humidity tray, especially indoors during dry seasons.
*4. Temperature:
Likes warm temps: 60–80°F (15–27°C).Avoid cold drafts or temps below 50°F (10°C).
*5. Soil:
Use rich, well-draining potting mix.A standard indoor mix with a little peat and perlite works well.
*6. Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
*7. Pruning:
Pinch back regularly to encourage a fuller shape.Remove dead or faded leaves to keep it tidy.
*8. Pests:
Watch for aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites.Neem oil or insecticidal soap helps if needed.
*9. Propagation:
Very easy to propagate from stem cuttings in water or moist soil.
*Bonus Tip:
Great as a terrarium plant, ground cover in tropical gardens, or colorful trailing plant in containers or hanging baskets.
