The spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is a super popular and easy-to-care-for houseplant known for its long, arching green leaves with white or yellow stripes. It’s great for beginners and is also a natural air purifier!
Basic Spider Plant Care:
• Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light. Too much direct sun may scorch the leaves.
• Water: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Don’t let it sit in water—spider plants hate soggy roots.
• Humidity: Average indoor humidity is fine, but they’ll love a bit of misting if the air is dry.
• Soil: Any well-draining potting mix works.
• Temperature: Thrives in typical room temps (60–80°F / 15–27°C).
• Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer, diluted to half strength.
Fun Facts:
• Babies (spiderettes): Mature plants produce little plantlets that dangle from long stems—you can snip them off and root them in water or soil!
• Non-toxic: Safe for pets, although some cats love to chew the leaves.
