A Gurney’s live Christmas tree (often sold as a potted evergreen like a spruce, fir, or pine) is a great eco-friendly option
*Before Bringing Indoors
1. Acclimate Gradually: Move the tree from the cold outdoors to a sheltered area like a garage for a few days. This helps it adjust to indoor temperatures.
2. Water Thoroughly: Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
*While Indoors (Holiday Period)
1. Limit Time Inside: No more than 7–10 days indoors to prevent stress from heat and dry air.
2. Location Matters:Keep away from heat sources (vents, fireplaces, radiators).Place near a window with natural light.
3. Water Regularly: Check soil moisture daily. Water when the top inch of soil is dry.
4. Use a Humidifier (Optional): Helps reduce needle drop due to dry air.
*After the Holidays
1. Reacclimate: Move it back to a cooler area like the garage for several days before planting outdoors.
2. Choose the Right Spot:
*Full sun
Well-draining soil. Enough space to grow (check the mature height/spread for your tree species)
*Planting Your Tree
1. Dig a Hole: 2–3 times the width of the root ball and just as deep.
2. Loosen the Roots if they are tightly bound.
3. Backfill with Native Soil: Water thoroughly as you fill.
4. Mulch Around Base: Helps retain moisture and protect roots.
5. Water Well: Keep watering through the first year, especially in dry spells.
*Ongoing Care
Water Weekly during the first year (more during hot spells).Avoid Fertilizing in the first season—let the roots establish.Watch for Pests/Disease and treat as needed.
